The name of this pub has hit the headlines in recent years.

For years this building, in St Michael’s Road, Southsea, was where couples married, excited parents registered their new babies and deaths were registered.

In 1999 it became a student pub named The Registry. But 10 years later the name was changed to The Kraken Wakes, after the John Wyndham novel. A protest was launched by unhappy punters and the name reverted to The Registry in March.
