A project to create a wildflower meadow has come a step closer to blooming after a £500 donation.

The Southern Co-operative has given £500 to the Portsmouth Lord Mayor’s Appeal towards the creation of a meadow at Baffins Pond, which will have beehives, a mini beast area and a pond dipping platform for schoolchildren.

The Lord Mayor Cllr Lynne Stagg said: ‘The Southern Co-operative has an excellent reputation for looking after the environment and it’s wonderful that they are giving us their support.

‘The £500 will be a great help in creating the Environmental Study Centre in addition to their offer of help in creating the wildflower meadow, just as they have already done at 1000 Lakeside.’

Portsmouth area manager Dips Hathi, said: ‘We know how keen people are to learn more about the environment from the huge interest in our members’ tours to our beehives on Bee Island at Lakeside, so it makes sense to support a similar campaign.’
