Winners in gardening contest tobe revealed

AFTER much hard work throughout the summer, entrants to Portsmouth in Bloom are set to find out who has been awarded a prestigious gold.

The awards presentation will take place tomorrow at 8pm at The Victory Suite, Fratton Park.

The annual event, sponsored by Colas and Portsmouth Water, includes 12 categories ranging from the best front garden to schools and business.

‘The judges have had quite a hard time this year,’ said Christine Celli, project co-ordinator. ‘It’s been a tough job and there’s been a lot of high scoring.’

Portsmouth in Bloom is a gardening competition open to residents, businesses and schools. It aims to increase wellbeing and biodiversity and is run by volunteers with the support of Portsmouth City Council.

The evening will be opened by the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth David Fuller and compered by comedian James Alderson. There will also be a talk by David Nield from the Portsmouth Beekeepers.
