A MOTORCYCLIST died after a crash on the M27 near Fareham.

The tragic incident happened shortly before 8pm last night.

Police confirmed that a 20-year-old man from Gosport was killed.

The force said that it was a single-vehicle crash on the M27 at Fareham, and no one else was involved.

It happened at around 7.40pm on the sliproad joining junction 11 of the motorway.

The 20-year-old had been riding a white Kawasaki motorbike along the motorway before the fatal incident happened.

His next of kin have been informed.

Alyshia Baxter, 22, of Camelot Crescent, Portchester, drove past the scene on her way home from work.

The calltaker said: ‘It was shocking to see, I have never seen so many police officers and cars before.

‘I work in Segensworth and finished work at 8pm, and could see loads of flashing lights from afar.

‘As I got closer I knew something serious had happened because of how many police cars and ambulance vehicles there were.

‘I didn’t look though because I knew it was something serious.’

South Central Ambulance Service were first to arrive.

A spokesman said: ‘We were called at 7.35pm to the M27 junction 11 to an incident involving a motorcyclist.

‘We sent an officer, a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance crew and the Hazardous Area Response Team.

‘One patient at the scene in his 20s was sadly declared deceased at the scene.’

Hampshire Constabulary is now appealing for witnesses of the incident to come forward.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or witnessed the bike being ridden prior to the incident, is asked to contact police.

People are being asked to contact Sergeant Nigel Burt or PC Jim Chapman from the Roads Policing Unit, on 101, quoting Operation Minden.
