DRAMA unfolded in Fareham as a woman fell from a bridge.

The woman, believed to be in her 20s, was taken to hospital after falling from a footbridge at the Gillies.

The girl was thought to have damaged her hip after falling approximately 5m on to muddy ground.

The incident happened at around 12.30pm. The air ambulance was called out but she was taken to hospital by road ambulance.

A crowd gathered to see the air ambulance land on open ground behind Aldi supermarket.

Claire Taylorson, from Crescent Road, said: ‘Apparently a young girl fell. We don’t know if she jumped or fell’

Her husband David Taylorson said: ‘She was there for quite a while though. By all accounts she has badly damaged her hip, that’s why she had to go in the helicopter.’

Toni Watt, from Belvoir Close, said: ‘There’s different stories flying about. Some say she jumped. If she did jump, it’s a good job she went that side of the bridge as the other side is solid concrete.’

Frank Blandford, from St Michael’s Grove, said: ‘I’ve never seen anything like it in all the years I’ve lived in Fareham. I’ve never seen the air ambulance up close like that. It’s very sad though.’
