A WOMAN had her shopping and handbag snatched by thieves who used a car to escape.

The 60-year-old had her belongings stolen as she walked home in Laburnum Grove, North End, Portsmouth.

She left McColl's convenience store on London Road, crossed the road and walked along Havant Road and Emsworth Road.

Turning into Laburnum Grove, a light-coloured vehicle pulled up alongside her and a passenger in the back jumped out and snatched her shopping and handbag.

He was white, in his 20s, of medium height, slim, and wearing a maroon-coloured woolly hat.

The thief got back into the vehicle which then drove off, before turning around and heading back towards London Road, turning left towards Fratton.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident which happened between 8pm and 8.30pm on January 20.

The stolen handbag was beige, about 12in by 12in, and it had a double shoulder strap.

It contained bank cards and 200 cash.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw the incident or a light-coloured vehicle in the Laburnum Grove area, to contact Det Con Andrew Holt on 101.

Alternatively, witnesses can contact the Crimestoppers charity line on 0800 555 111, where information can be left anonymously.
