A WOMAN was taken to hospital after a fire broke out in a kitchen of a house.

The incident happened in New Road East, Copnor, about 9.25pm last night.

The female resident was treated after breathing in smoke and was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital, in Cosham, to be checked over.

Her condition is not thought to be serious.

The woman’s husband was unharmed.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated. Firefighters said that the home did not have any working smoke alarms.
