ROAD repairs are under way after a gas leak in South Street, Gosport.

Southern Gas Networks was fixing the leak yesterday, monitoring it overnight and hopes to start road repairs today.

It plans to complete the repairs by Friday.

The leak, which started on Monday evening, led to the evacuation of residents living in flats above the shops between the A32 Mumby Road and Creek Road. Most residents, who have now returned, stayed at relatives’ houses, while nine people were temporarily housed in Gosport and Portsmouth.

Gosport Borough Council will look to recoup the money spent on the temporary accommodation from Southern Gas Networks. Claire Buchanan, a spokeswoman for Southern Gas Networks, commended a resident for alerting them about the leak.
