WORK to improve the slipway used by a rescue service was due to get under way today.

Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service (Gafirs) will be improving the slipway to make it easier to launch and bring in larger boats.

Repair and refurbishment company APA Concrete Repairs have been hired to carry out the work and the £17,000 cost is being funded by Gosport Borough Council.

The work, which should last one week, includes smoothing over a small step between the slipway and the beach and extending the slipway.
