A GUNMAN in a gas mask has been arrested after opening fire at a Florida School.

Seventeen people have been killed and dozens more are injured after an expelled student, armed with smoke grenades and ‘multiple magazines’ stormed Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

Nikolas Cruz, 19, had reportedly been expelled from the high school last year for ‘disciplinary reasons’.

Students at the scene barricaded themselves into their classrooms and some shared their horror on social media.

Cruz fled the scene by mixing in with hundreds of terrified students but was later caught in a nearby neighbourhood and was taken into custody.

Twelve of the people shot dead were found inside the school. Two more bodies were found just outside of the school and another in a nearby road.

A further two people died after being taken to hospital.
