TOP sailor Sir Robin Knox-Johnston is just days away from returning to competitive sailing.

The veteran sailor, of Old Portsmouth, was the first man to sail solo non-stop around the world.

He sat that record in 1968/69 and now at 75 will be the oldest skipper sailing in a 3,500-mile transatlantic race.

On board his Open 60 yacht Grey Power he will take on the classic Route du Rhum race, starting from St Malo, France, in early November.

Sir Robin decided to return to sailing after joining Clipper Race crew in the Sydney Hobart Race last year. It was part of the Clipper world race, run from Gosport.
