FAREHAM Rafters is challenging newcomers to take part in its annual charity raft race.

Boats will launch into the water from Fareham Quay, by the Castle in the Air pub, at 10.30am, on Saturday, August 1.

More than 1,000 spectators are expected at the event, with the Mayor of Fareham, Councillor Mike Ford, starting the first race.

All proceeds will go to Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Services.
