Young people from Gosport sleep rough to raise cash for homeless charity

YOUNG people spent the night sleeping outside to experience what homeless people have to go through.

Fourteen members of the Gosport Voluntary Action supported youth group Loud and Proud spent a wet and stormy night at Fort Grange, in HMS Sultan.

As well as learning what it feels like, the young people raised more than £450 for charity Two Saints which helps homeless youngsters in Fareham and Gosport.

Nicola Ure, project leader at Loud and Proud, which is based in Gosport, said: ‘The members wanted to find out what it is like to be a homeless young person.

‘I was proud to see how well they worked together as a team to meet the various challenges they were set, including being “moved on” three times during the night.

‘We’re very grateful to HMS Sultan’s Commanding Officer Captain Trevor Gulley and Southern Co-operative Funeralcare for their support to the event’.

Loud and Proud member Holly Pitt added: ‘It was really good to experience what it was like to be homeless.

‘I am so glad I have a home and it taught us not to take anything for granted.’
