Leaders from both GB and BB wore themed fancy dress, and part of the church building was decorated as the wardrobe, another part as a winter wonderland and a hall as a royal tournament in the magical land of Narnia.

Alex Bearne, Captain of 4th Portsmouth BB, said: ‘The weekend was a lot of hard work but definitely worth it.

‘The children and young people loved it and it was great to hear their laughter as they took part in the games and to see their smiling faces.’

Games at the recent activity day included jousting with foam sticks, archery, relay races and a visit from the evil white witch who was pelted with soft balls before being defeated by Aslan the lion.

The children and young people, aged four to 17, then enjoyed dinner before those aged under eight went home.

The over-eights watched The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe film before sleeping over and attending a special church service the following morning.

Some of the over-eights had also joined in with a joint GB/BB geocaching trip
in Southsea earlier on the Saturday morning.

Both GB and BB groups offer four to 18-year-olds the chance to make new friends, work for badges, go on camps, and take part in fun activities like craft, music, exploring faith and fundraising.
