A LEISURE centre held a swimming gala to raise money for charity.

Fareham Leisure Centre, operated by Everyone Active, hosted the gala in which nearly 200 youngsters took part.

They were raising money for Ava’s Pink Quest Charity.

The event was organised by staff members in support of their colleague Chris McCarty whose three-year-old daughter Ava is currently undergoing chemotherapy. She was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2012.

Nearly 200 children aged seven to 15-year-olds completed the gala by swimming 25 metres. A total of £393 was raised.

Everyone Active swim school manager Nikki Ings said: ‘The event went well and we are thrilled to have raised a fantastic amount of money for such a worthy cause.

‘There was a great atmosphere on the day and we are very proud of the swimmers.

‘They’ve worked really hard during their lessons and it was great to see them using their skills to raise money for charity.’
