Your guide to events in the Portsmouth area over the Christmas period

Here are some of the festive events to watch out for in the Portsmouth area over the next few days.

The Portsmouth Chorus Christmas Concert is taking place on Saturday, December 17 at St Agatha’s Church. The show will feature the children’s choir from St John’s Cathedral Catholic Primary School, clarinetist Sophie Osborne and a brass quintet. Tickets will cost £10, with free entry for under 16s.

Southsea Castle’s Christmas Cracker event is being held on the same day, boasting fun for the whole family. A live jazz band, craft activities and a makers market are just some of the features at this free event, which kicks off at 3pm.

At 2.30pm on Sunday, December 18, the Dickens Guided Christmas Walk will give people a festive stroll around Portsmouth, starting at Victory Gate and ending at Portsmouth Museum. Tickets will cost just £3.

The Portsmouth Light Orchestra is also doing a performance on the day, starting at 2.30pm. Taking place at the Buckland Community Centre, well-known Christmas songs and traditional carols will be played. Admission is free, but donations will be warmly received.

On Christmas Eve, the children and young people of St Mary’s Church will be telling the story of the Nativity. With free parking on church grounds, the performance will start at 5pm.

St Mary’s Church will then see in Christmas Day with a midnight mass; the choir of St Mary’s and instrumentalists will be present at the service, which begins at 11.30pm.
