YOUNGSTERS from Portsmouth are on the crest of a wave thanks to a partnership between two local businesses.

Southern Water and Portsmouth Watersports Centre offered young people the chance to learn how to sail in a week-long course at Langstone Harbour.

As well as teaching sailing and water safety, youngsters developed team working, leadership and motivational skills.

Geoff Loader from Southern Water, which partly funded the course, said: ‘It is fantastic to be able to give young people the opportunity to take part in an activity like sailing that is not only great fun but also teaches them many important skills that will set them up for later life.’

Danny Churcher of Parkwood Community Leisure which runs the watersports centre said: ‘This is a great example of how partnerships between local businesses can be developed to benefit the local community.’
