A COUNCIL has handed out more than 800 fines in the past 12 months, it has been revealed.

East Hampshire District Council – which looks after Clanfield, Horndean and Rowlands Castle, among more – says the fines are helping to keep the streets clean.

Residents and visitors can be fined £80 for discarding litter, including cigarette butts and chewing gum.

Cllr Ingrid Thomas said: ‘Litter is a blight on our towns and villages and the message is clear. If you drop litter, then you can expect a fine.’
