A SCHOOL has been left clueless as to whether staff and students will be able to access the premises next week due to a road closure.
Fareham Academy say they were not notified about the closure of St Anne’s Grove which is the road in front of the school and provides the only access.
A post on the school’s Facebook page this evening read: ‘Despite our best efforts, we have been unable to clarify with Hampshire Highways any details about the closure of St Anne’s Grove next week.
‘You may have seen the sign which states that the road will be fully shut between 9am and 3pm from December 3 for four days. Hampshire Highways has not contacted the Academy to give us notification of this closure as they are not, “legally,” obliged to do so.
‘We found out about the closure from the sign displayed yesterday.’
The school has tried to clarify with Hampshire Highways, Fareham Council and Hampshire County Council whether there will be access to the Academy but say they have not been given ‘any firm answers’.
The school has assumed there will be no parking or access between 9am and 3pm on St Anne’s Grove and children should be picked up from a pre-arranged meeting point on a side road to the school.
Hampshire County Council’s website lists St Anne’s Grove as part of a number of temporary road closures in 2018 and that the road will be closed between its junction with Westfield Avenue and its termination.
The post continued: ‘ The School bus, provided by Lucketts Travel, will continue to run and will make the morning pickups as usual.
‘We will be in contact with Lucketts on Monday to arrange a suitable pickup location for students to make their way home, if Hampshire Highways refuse to allow us to use St Anne’s Grove at 2.30pm.
‘Students will be escorted to the bus and we expect that the bus will leave on time. School will continue to run as normal, with homework club being offered till 4pm.
‘We thank you for your understanding that this matter is fully beyond our control and despite our best efforts today, we have been provided with very limited information by Hampshire Highways.
‘If we are able to garner further information we will keep you fully updated via our Facebook page. Hampshire Highways contact centre is 0300 5551388; if you wish to contact them yourselves.’
