FIREFIGHTERS had to break into a home in Fareham early today after an elderly woman collapsed.

The incident took place around 3.00am in Longmynd Drive and officers from Fareham fire station were at the scene for about one hour.

Firefighters had to force an entry to the property so that paramedics could treatment the woman.

A spokesman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘We were called to the incident around 3.00am this morning,

‘We had to break in because the key press did not work.

‘Ambulance services called us rather than do damage to the house.’

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service said: ‘We were called early this morning to a patient who had fallen at home and injured her shoulder. The patient is elderly and lives at home alone.

‘We sent an ambulance to the property but the fire service were required to help gain access to the property as the keysafe wasn’t working.

The woman was taken to the Queen Alexandra Hospital at Cosham.
