SAILORS from HMS Collingwood have got in the Christmas spirit to donate boxes of toys and advent calendars to children.

Leading Physical Trainer (LPT) Regaina Cawley and her colleagues donated the gifts to youngsters at The Rainbow Centre in Fareham, following a Christmas charity drive.

LPT Cawley took three boxes full of gifts to the charity that helps children with cerebral palsy earlier this month.

She presented them to Yvonne Campbell, senior community fundraiser at the centre, who said: ‘We were totally blown away by the number of items that had been collected by HMS Collingwood, and so much thought had been put into the variety of educational items that our children could use.

‘It was a wonderful start to the Rainbow’s festive season.’

LPT Cawley said: ‘The reactions and looks on their faces is all the reward we could have ever wanted. It was such a heartwarming and humbling moment when one of the children, who was crying uncontrollably immediately, ceased his tears when he received his Avengers advent calendar.

‘The simplest things can make a world of a difference to a child.’

She added that she wanted to help after hearing about the work that the centre does.

The centre has long held an affiliation with the sailors at the naval base, offering them support and assistance on many occasions over the years.
