PEOPLE who enjoy buying the freshest food and drink, straight from the producers, can enjoy a new event.
Hampshire Farmers’ Markets and Hill Farm Juice will be celebrating the apple harvest with a brand-new event, Applefest 2016.
At Hill Farm, Swanmore, there will be apple-based entertainment throughout the day, on October 1, from 10am to 4pm.
Alex Handford, business manager at Hampshire Farmers’ Markets, said: ‘This is a first for us and Hill Farm and we’re all very much looking forward to welcoming our producers and friends and families to Swanmore for the day.
Those who have apple trees in their back garden are invited to bring along their harvest to press.
There will be tractor rides around the farm before a sneak peak inside Hill Farm’s pressing and bottling plant.
‘There will be something for everyone at Applefest’, said Will Dobson of Hill Farm.
‘Bring the kids along to have their faces painted and try their hands at some sand art.
‘Grown-ups can have a go at woodland coppicing, plus there will be live music all day.’
As well as apples to press and juice to drink there will be plenty of other Hampshire produce to pick up.
Berceries will be bringing along their home-baked products to sell and the always-popular fishcakes by Catch Isle of Wight are expected to sell out on the day too.
FNK have a wide range of pies to try at home, such as gourmet pork belly and Moroccan lamb.
Shoppers can also pick up some honey from Mrs B’s Bees, jams and chutneys from Perfect Pickles, and something sweet from new Hampshire Farmers’ Markets member Purbeck Ice Cream.
‘We hope apple-lovers from all over the county will come and help us celebrate and make our first Applefest here at Hill Farm a success,’ Alex said.
Applefest 2016 takes place at Hill Farm, Droxford Road, Swanmore.
