THE tricks of the trade used by scammers in the area are being exposed by Citizens Advice.

Citizens Advice Gosport has teamed up with Trading Standards to give people the knowledge to spot potential scams.

The two organisations will be holding a ‘Spam Or Scam’ session at Gosport Discovery Centre on Friday, July 21 at 10am.

Valerie Kelly, chief executive of Citizens Advice Gosport, said: ‘Knowing how to spot a scam is the best line of defence against being scammed.

‘While scammers will always use tactics like cut-price deals and pressure selling to draw people in, there are more ways for scammers to reach people with different bogus offers.

‘People will be able to take away a few key tips from the event which will help protect them against a range of different scams.

‘People are reluctant to talk about scams; we want to bring the issue out into the open.’
