Staff at the pub got a surprise when the actor and television host popped in for breakfast.

The 57-year-old, who has appeared in Coronation Street and currently hosts gameshow The Chase, visited the pub alone.

The Sailmaker’s duty manager Caroline Wood said: ‘Mr Walsh was extremely friendly and nice. He was just your normal down to earth lovely guy.

‘He came in for breakfast and was here last night as well. It was a very nice surprise. I’d heard there was a film crew around but I didn’t know if there would be any big actors with them.’

Peter Kettlewell, who also works at The Sailmaker, added: ‘I didn’t believe it was him at first. It was only after he said “morning” and we had a bit of a chat that I realised who it was.’

It is thought Mr Walsh could also be in Gosport to find new contestants for The Chase.
