A film crew, which turned up at Stokes Bay earlier this week, have confirmed the team will be in the town for the next few days filming the next series of the BBC show.

Chelsea, a supervisor at the pub, told The News The Chase presenter had come into the pub on his own last night and spoke to staff.

She said: ‘I asked him what had bought him down this way and he said there was a film set near Fort Gilkicker for a few days.

‘I asked what the set was and he explained he was for the new Doctor Who series.

‘It was amazing to see him at my workplace sitting there with a beer.

‘He was relaxed and we gave him a warm welcome, and he let us have a photo.’

The team are filming in Little Woodham, a small 17th century-styled village in the town.

Walsh is best known for his roles as Danny Baldwin in Coronation Street and the lead role of DS Ronnie Brooks in Law & Order: UK.

He will be playing Graham in the new Doctor Who series, a companion to the new Doctor, Jodie Whittaker.

Staff at the pub got a surprise when the actor and television host popped in for breakfast.

The 57-year-old, who has appeared in Coronation Street and currently hosts gameshow The Chase, visited the pub alone.

The Sailmaker’s duty manager Caroline Wood said: ‘Mr Walsh was extremely friendly and nice. He was just your normal down to earth lovely guy.

‘He came in for breakfast and was here last night as well. It was a very nice surprise. I’d heard there was a film crew around but I didn’t know if there would be any big actors with them.’

Peter Kettlewell, who also works at The Sailmaker, added: ‘I didn’t believe it was him at first. It was only after he said “morning” and we had a bit of a chat that I realised who it was.’

It is thought Mr Walsh could also be in Gosport to find new contestants for The Chase.
