by Geoff Wood, pastor of Gosport Family Church
EACH year, the pastors and members of the Family Church Gosport hold a Christmas Spectacular which seeks to spread the joy of Christmas to the local community.
This year, the event will be held at Brune Park Community School, in Military Road, Gosport, where the church usually gathers to hold its weekly service on a Sunday.
The Christmas Spectacular is a free, fun-filled time and is scheduled for December 16, beginning at 4pm until 5.30pm.
The theme for this year’s event is The Light of the Christmas.
Family Church is looking to bring the light of Christmas to a world that seems so dark at times. Why not bring the joy back into Christmas when so many seem to have lost the true meaning of what Christmas is all about?
There will be something to keep all family members entertained and engaged throughout the evening – from Christmas music in the car park right through to the main hall where you will be welcomed by buskers and very festive decorations which will be in keeping with the theme.
Visitors are invited to come and sing along with the choir, to a mixture of both traditional and modern carols such as O Holy Night, Joy to the World, Silent Night, and Once in Royal David’s City to start you off in the Christmas cheer.
There will be a children’s Christmas costume competition for the best-dressed king, shepherd and angel, and parents are invited to bring their children along for the Christmas story time.
The local Tots and Toddler group which meets weekly on a Wednesday morning will also be taking part in the event.
There will also be activities sheets for the children to get involved with.
And finally, there will be free refreshments in the Footlights in the Church coffee shop.
Javalicious will be serving candy canes, quality streets, mince pies, teas, coffees, chocolate, marshmallows, and catering to all your dietary needs.
