Tributes pour in for father, 37, who was assaulted outside Gosport pub

A 37-year-old man was taken to hospital after suffering a brain injury and a broken jaw after being attacked near The Fox Tavern, in Northcross Street, between 3am and 3.45am on Saturday morning.

The man, who is a regular customer in The Fox, is believed to have cracked his skull on the pavement, which has left him with a bleed on the brain.

Chesney Quigley was working in the pub on Friday evening and said that nothing occurred to aggravate an attack during the course of the night.

She said: ‘He’s one of the loveliest people you could ever meet – he couldn’t do anything to harm anyone.

‘I’ve known him for quite a while as my sister went to school with him and he comes in here fairly often.

‘He’s never caused any trouble whatsoever and I was devastated when I found out the news.’

A customer who was drinking in the pub on Friday evening said: ‘It’s unbelievable how someone can do that to someone like him as he’s someone who would never get caught up in anything like this.’

Another resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said: ‘I know him really really well and see him most days when we take our children to school and he loves spending time with his kids.

‘He is a gentleman and a fight would be the last thing that he’d be looking for.

‘I really hope he gets better as quickly as possible.’
