THOSE who are keen walkers are being invited to come forward as volunteer leaders for local Walking for Health walks in Havant.

The Walking for Health scheme aims to improve people’s health and well-being through regular walks, with more than 10,000 volunteers nationwide and hosted by the Ramblers and Macmillan Cancer Trust.

Commitment from walk leaders is flexible, with some getting involved weekly, and others helping out once every few months. Anyone wishing to become a walk leader does not need to be extremely fit – just able to walk for an hour.

Training will be given to anyone wishing to become a new walk leader on Friday, May 12 between 10am and 4pm, at Havant Borough Council’s Public Service Plaza.

The fun and informal training day, with lunch provided, will offer information on how to lead walks safely. After the course, leaders will be fully supported to become integrated as a volunteer with one of the existing walks or encouraged to start up a new one.

For more information on becoming a walk leader or to reserve your place on the training day please call 01730 234015 or e-mail Details of the free walks in Havant are at:
