Locals attend drop-in to discuss Emsworth Surgery's options for the future

MORE than 250 people attended a drop-in session to discuss the future of a town's GP practice and the options being considered.

The deadline is approaching for Emsworth residents to take part in an NHS survey on the future of their GP practice, which could see the relocation of the premises, currently at North Street.

About 300 copies of the survey were handed out to those who attended the public event at the Slipper Sailing Club. It lists the nine options being reviewed and asks people which ideas would be best for them and their family '“ and why.

Emsworth GP Dr William Denby said: '˜We would like to thank everyone who attended the drop-in, which we hope was informative.

'˜From the feedback in the room, I think more people are now aware of not only the different options under consideration, but they have a greater understanding of the various issues which will need to be taken into consideration when a decision is taken on our preferred way forward.'

GP Partners at Emsworth Surgery are looking to possibly relocate to a new site to help meet the increasing health needs of a growing population and provide the best and most up-to-date facilities and services they can for their patients.

The options include moving to a new site at Redlands Lane, moving in to a refurbished Emsworth Victoria Cottage Hospital, finding a new site, or remaining at their existing location.

An outline business case for the preferred option needs to be submitted to NHS England by December 21.

Sara Tiller, the managing director of NHS South Eastern Hampshire Clinical Commissioning Group, said: '˜We are listening to what people tell us. On Friday, we will start to evaluate the responses and feedback that we have had from the public so that it can help inform the decision-making process.'

People have until 12pm tomorrow (Friday) to complete the survey online, or hand in hard copies by no later than 5.30pm today (Thursday) at Emsworth Surgery, or its branch in Westbourne.

The first drop-in session was in Westbourne last week.
