VOLUNTEERS in Portsmouth are urging people to be more aware of their blood pressure, offering information, advice and even free blood pressure tests.

Registered nurses from the Redeemed Christian Church Of God have a free ‘Pressure Station’ opposite TK Maxx in the Cascades Shopping Centre this week, as part of a national campaign for people to pay more attention to health warnings.

The pressure station will be set up in the Portsmouth shopping centre until Friday, September 14, running from 9am-4pm.

Nurse Omotola Adeojo said: ‘Blood pressure is one of the most preventable and treatable conditions but remains one of the leading causes of death.

‘As an individual having your blood  pressure checked is the most important step that you can take to reduce your risk of stroke, heart attack or heart failure.’

The event is part of Know Your Numbers! Week, which is being organised by Blood Pressure UK.

Campaign manager Hemini Bharadia said: ‘High blood pressure does not discriminate on age or gender – people are dying unnecessarily because they fail to take such simple steps to reduce their blood pressure.

‘Know Your Numbers! Week is the perfect opportunity to have your blood pressure taken for free and put you in control of your health.’
