A SPECIALIST builders merchant has raised more than £35,000 for local hospices including Rowans Hospice in Waterlooville.

Covers Timber & Builders Merchant in Portsmouth hosted its fourth annual Help for Hospices week in September, pledging £20,000 of its own money to kick-start the campaign as well as donating £5 for each registered customer that made a purchase during the event.

Rupert Green, chairman at Covers, said: ‘We are once again overwhelmed with the incredible support we have received for our annual Help for Hospices week.

‘We would like to thank everyone who helped raise much needed funds for the essential work that our local hospices provide to the community. I am sure the money will make a big difference.’
