A car has crashed into the front of a Co-op store in Southsea.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the drama in Winter Road shortly after 1.30pm this afternoon.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said the driver was being treated by paramedics and that a section of Winter Road and Empshott Road was closed.

Eyewitnesses said a car crashed into the entrance area of the shop.

Pete Hamilton, of nearby Bramshott Road, Southsea, said: ‘I saw a couple of fire engines, several police cars and ambulances turn up on the scene.

‘There was a fire crew trying to get a couple of people out of the car.

‘From what I could see, the car had gone straight into the front door.

‘It looked like there was a driver and a front passenger.’
