Deep fat fryer blaze at kitchen at HMS Nelson in Portsmouth

A DEEP fat fryer caught fire in a kitchen at HMS Nelson.

A crew from Southsea fire station was called to the Officers’ Mess at HMS Nelson at 6.55am this morning.

Portsmouth is considered the home of the Royal Navy, with a long historical association with it. HMNB Portsmouth is the home base of HMS Queen Elizabeth and soon-to-be for her sister ship HMS Prince of Wales.

A fire service spokesman said: ‘The deep fat fryer had started a fire in the kitchen area.

‘Luckily there were no injuries and the blaze was extinguished with a fire blanket.’
