Driver taken to hospital and tree removed after late-night crash

A YOUNG male driver crashed his car into a tree in the early hours of the morning.

Cosham Fire Station were called to the scene on Southampton Road, near Cosham in Portsmouth, at about 2am.

Crews worked for about half-an-hour to free a young male, in his early 20s, from a brand-new Vauxhall.

Crew manager Munday said: '˜We cut the side of the car out.

'˜I think the driver had been travelling towards Cosham and lost control of the car and hit a tree.

'˜There were no other cars involved.

'˜The car was completely damaged and the driver had some injuries.'

The affected tree has since been removed from the roadside.
