A CONTROLLED explosion was carried out on ordnance found in the Solent.
Crew on a survey vessel spotted the ordnance on Sunday, the coastguard said.
The joint services explosive ordnance disposal team dealt with the incident and detonated the item between 3pm and 4pm on Monday.
It had been spotted roughly between Ryde Pier on the Isle of Wight and Horse Sand Fort in the Solent.
As reported, it comes after a team from Hill Head coastguard recovered a non-explosive piece of ordnance and recovered it on September 1.
