FIREFIGHTERS rescued an elderly woman who was stuck in a lift in Southsea yesterday.

She called the fire service after becoming trapped in a flat complex in Victoria Road North at 2pm.

Two fire engines were sent out and the woman was then rescued by firefighters who managed to prise the lift doors open.

The crew then stood down at around 3pm.

A spokesperson for the station said: ‘We received a call that an elderly lady was stuck in a lift in a flat complex on Victoria Road North.

‘She was rescued safely.’
