Visitors to Portsmouth's Gunwharf Quays will be treated to a spectacular fireworks display and the Christmas lights switch on.Â

When will the display happen and the lights be turned on? 

Gunwharf Quays will be switching on its Christmas lights next Thursday '“ November 8.

The switch on will form part of the fireworks extravaganza at the shopping centre in Portsmouth. 

The event will start at 6pm and the shops will remain open until 9pm. 

Barnardo's bears will be in attendance entertaining the crowds between performances and encouraging visitors to donate and help local children living in poverty.

Is anyone famous performing? 

The Gunwharf Quays firework extravaganza '“ and Christmas light switch on '“ is known for having big name performers.

And this year Singer songwriter JP Cooper will headline the show.

He will be performing his chart-topping singles '˜September Song' and '˜She's On My Mind'.

He will be supported by up-and-coming artist Chelcee Grimes, better known as the songwriter behind pop favourites from the likes of Dua Lipa and Kylie Minogue, performing her debut song '˜Just Like That'.

Do I need tickets and how much do they cost? 

No you don't need tickets '“ and the event is free but Gunwharf Quays requests that everyone attending makes a 50p donation to Barnardo's.

Yvonne Clay, Senior Marketing Manager at Gunwharf Quays, said: '˜The annual fireworks extravaganza is one of the biggest events in our calendar and we are delighted that both JP Cooper and Chelcee Grimes will be joining us on the night to help dazzle the crowds.

'˜The event will also mark the start of the festive shopping season, with our Christmas lights being displayed for the first time this year. 

'˜Although admission to our event is free, we are encouraging visitors to donate as much as they can to our charity, Barnardo's - if everyone attending gave just 50p we could raise an incredible amount to help those most vulnerable in our community.'

What about parking? 

Gunwharf Quays does have a car park but guests are advised to arrive early to avoid disappointment. 

As well as being advised to consider using public transport or the Park and Ride service.
