FORMER Pompey manager Harry Redknapp has revealed that a safari trip with Pompey’s FA Cup winning squad wasn’t all that popular with some of the players.
Redknapp, who is currently starring in ITV’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, spoke to fellow contestant James McVey about the team’s visit to a South African safari.
While the ex-Pompey boss seemed to enjoy the trip, he explained a few of the players were slightly less enthusiastic than him.
He said: ‘That was a great team I had there. I had a team of African players and we went to South Africa on a safari.
‘The guy in charge said to me we would be up at 5:30am – we had lovely coffee, cake and then on the jeeps for 6am.
‘Then the players came up to me and said 'Gaffer, we are from Africa. We have seen elephants, we have seen lions, we don't want to get up at 5:30!’
Pompey won the FA Cup under Harry Redknapp back in 2008 – with players such as Nwankwo Kanu, John Utaka and Sulley Muntari in the starting XI.
