MEXICAN fast food joint Taco Bell will be opening the doors to its first Portsmouth restaurant later this week.
The new restaurant will be opening in Commercial Road on Friday.
Portsmouth City Council approved plans for the chain to move into the old Martha’s building – a gay bar that closed in 2011.
Taco Bell announced that the 74-seater restaurant will create 55 new jobs, with eight management positions up for grabs as well.
Daniel Bratu, Taco Bell Portsmouth’s store manager, said: ‘We’re really pleased to be opening a Taco Bell in Portsmouth and to focus our investment in this area – it’s a place we’ve had our eye on for a while.
‘Commercial Road has a high footfall of those looking for entertainment and of course a bite to eat, providing us with the perfect spot to expand our portfolio in the area.
‘We look forward to welcoming even more Taco Bell fans and first-timers through our doors.’
The 35th Taco Bell to open in the UK, the restaurant will boast its classic menu, catering to both meat lovers and vegetarians alike with its range of burritos, tacos and quesadillas.
To celebrate the opening, Taco Bell Portsmouth will also be giving away free Taco Bell T-shirts to the first 100 customers through its doors.
