A CALL to arms has gone out to the area’s litter pickers to join a scheme to rid the city of rubbish.

Portsmouth South MP Flick Drummond has urged schools, businesses and community groups to help clear up Portsea island next month during The Great British Spring Clean.

The event is from Friday, March 3, to Sunday, March 5 and follows last year’s Clean for The Queen campaign.

This year’s action is set to bring together anti-litter organisations across the UK.

Mrs Drummond, who runs the Pompey Litter Pickers group, will be taking part in the clean-up and wants as many people as possible to join her. ‘As a seasoned litter picker, I very much support this event and I hope it will get many people in Portsmouth cleaning up the city,’ she said.
