London Road accident: Portsmouth man arrested after woman hit by car released from custodyÂ

A man who was arrested following an accident in North End last week has been released from custody.Â

He was arrested in connection with the incident on London Road at around 2.25pm on Friday (September 14). 

The man has since been released under investigation by the police.

A 60-year-old woman suffered a serious head injury during the accident and was taken to the major trauma centre at University Hospital Southampton.

London Road accident: Police arrest Portsmouth man after incident in North End

Police were called to the scene following an accident between a car and pedestrian. 

The car, a Honda Insight, did not stop at the scene but was located later on Friday. 

London Road was partly closed between Stubbington Avenue and Kingston Crescent on Friday afternoon with police diverting traffic through the side streets.

Sue Taylor,  who works at Portsmouth Laundry, said: '˜I heard an almighty bang. I was out the back.

'˜The lady looked in a pretty bad way.

'˜It is not what you would expect on a Friday afternoon.

'˜It's really shook me. The noise I heard it wasn't a nice sound.'
