London Road accident: Portsmouth road reopens following police incident but motorists warned of traffic delays

A road in Portsmouth has reopened following an accident involving a pedestrian and a car this afternoon.Â

London Road in North End was closed by police following the incident at around 2.25pm today (September 14). 

A man from Portsmouth has been arrested in connection with the accident and remains in police custody at this time.

The road closures in place on London Road have now been lifted but motorists are warned of potentially heavy traffic in the area. 

With Portsmouth Roads reporting that there is traffic in both directions. 

However as it is Friday, heavier than usual traffic is to be expected in the city. 

Stagecoach South services had been disrupted but are now resuming normal routes.

The company tweeted: 'North End incident has now cleared and all our services are now resuming normal routes. Apologies for the delays.' 

Sue Taylor,  who works at Portsmouth Laundry, said: '˜I heard an almighty bang. I was out the back.

'˜The lady looked in a pretty bad way. 

'˜It is not what you would expect on a Friday afternoon. '˜It's really shook me. The noise I heard it wasn't a nice sound.'
