UBER customers in Portsmouth are now able to opt into a new carpool scheme.

From now on, if drivers need to go to a particular part of town – perhaps because they’re heading home – Uber’s new Driver Destinations feature will match them with a passenger going the same way, allowing them to share a ride together.

The feature was originally trialled in London last year and is now being rolled out in Portsmouth following feedback from thousands of drivers.

From this week, drivers in Portsmouth will also be able to sign up for a range of discounted benefits, such as illness and injury cover.

Jo Bertram, regional general manager of Uber UK, explained: ‘We’ve been listening to the improvements drivers want us to make.

‘One feature drivers have asked for is the ability to set a destination and only get fares which are heading in that direction.

‘Our technology can now make this happen and so help give drivers even more control over what they do.’
