Pompey loanee David Wheeler hopes his goal against Maidenhead in the FA Cup will be ‘the first of many’ for the club.
The on-loan QPR winger scored the fourth goal in the Blues’ 4-0 first-round win against the Magpies.
It took his goal tally for Kenny Jackett’s side to two, after netting in the Checkatrade Trophy victory over Gillingham in September.
That game represents Wheeler’s last start for the Blues, with seven of his nine Pompey appearances coming as a substitute.
His effort against the Magpies arrived after replacing fellow goalscorer Jamal Lowe on 63 minutes.
That lack of game time means the Fratton faithful are yet to see him at his best.
But Wheeler is hoping his latest goal can kick-start his Pompey career.
Posting on Twitter after today’s win, he said: ‘Chuffed to have contributed with a goal to another solid performance.
‘Feels a lifetime ago I was playing there with Staines Town FC and Lewes FC.
‘Thanks all for the support through my time out. Hoping it's the first of many.’
