OPERA-lovers will be in for a treat tonight as Portsmouth’s city centre stages a major masterpiece.

Il Trovatore, Verdi’s tragic melodrama, will be shown live on Portsmouth’s Big Screen in Guildhall Square from 7.15pm.

The harrowing tale of love, revenge and war will be screened free.

The Royal Opera House production is being shown around the country as part of the BP Big Screens programme.

The News yesterday mistakenly reported the event was to be held last night and apologises for the error.
