A BOWLS club held a celebration to mark its 50th anniversary.

Victory Indoor Bowls Club, in Portsmouth, invited members to take part in the event which saw them play a match against a combined team from other indoor bowls clubs across the country.

Liz Pescops, chairman of the club, said she was pleased with the turnout and how the anniversary went.

‘There wasn’t one complaint about the day – the match was brilliant and so was the food,’ she said.

‘If anything, too many people wanted to play, compared to how many we could have.’

John Farrar, president of Victory Indoor Bowls Club, recovered from an illness to attend the day and give a speech.

With 50 years under its belt, the club is planning ahead for the next 50 years, with both refurbishments to the building as well as urging more members to pick up the sport.

Liz added: ‘Everyone should give it a go.

‘We have a great facility here, with opportunities for both competitive matches, as well as friendly matches.’

All ages are welcome at the bowls club which now has more than 400 members aged seven to 91.

An open day is being held at the club on Alex Way, in Hilsea, on November 10, between 2pm and 4pm.
