PLANS to demolish a former bar and create a new public space in Portsmouth city centre are to be debated.

Portsmouth City Council will consider the application to level the former base of the Drift in the City bar, in Isambard Brunel Road, Southsea.

The site has been unused for most of the last decade.

Under the proposal, the area could be used for events, businesses and the community. It would also open up views to Portsmouth Cenotaph and war memorials.

City planning boss, Councillor Ben Dowling said: ‘New public space in the city centre would have the potential of creating a real economic and community boost for the area.’

The meeting is on Tuesday, September 4.
