Strong winds of up to 70mph have been forecast for coastal areas including Portsmouth overnight.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind, which will be in place between 9am tomorrow morning and 7am on Thursday.

Gusts of between 65mph and 70mph are expected along exposed coasts and over high ground, with 50mph winds more likely in other areas.

On its website the chief forecaster said: ‘Winds will gradually ease from the west during the night, finally easing from the far south east of England around dawn on Thursday.

‘Outbreaks of rain, some of it heavy, will accompany the strong winds and will add to the difficult driving conditions.’

The warning covers most of the country, including all of Hampshire.

Yellow weather warnings mean severe weather is possible and people should plan ahead thinking about possible travel delays or disruption to day-to-day activities.
