THOUSANDS of people watched in awe as a stunning display of fireworks filled the sky over the Solent at Gunwharf Quays.
The retail and leisure outlet held its annual fireworks extravaganza for Guy Fawkes Night yesterday.
Crowds of friends and families enjoyed a spectacular pyrotechnic display to music after entertainment from singer songwriters Chelcee Grimes and JP Cooper.
Colin Wilding, general manager at Gunwharf Quays, said: ‘Gunwharf has been putting on a display since 2001 so this was our 17th event.
‘We partnered with Pains Fireworks to create a 17-minute display which is incredibly technical.
‘Two barges are loaded with fireworks, which are all set on timers, so they go off at exactly the right moment to sync with music.
‘The barges then sail out into position in the Solent and are launched from the stage at Gunwharf.
‘The height the fireworks reach is managed from the shore, based on the weather conditions in the Solent.
‘This year again proved to be a huge success with thousands of guests watching.’
