Video shows the amazing moment a lovestruck rock fan proposed on stage in front a packed audience at Portsmouth Guildhall.

American rockers Black Stone Cherry let him interrupt their set to get down on one knee to pop the big question to his girlfriend.

She said yes, prompting tumultuous applause from the Guildhall crowd last night.

Guildhall managers posted footage of the proposal on Twitter (note: full clip contains some strong language) saying ‘Huge congratulations to the happy couple who got engaged tonight on stage‘ and also tweeted an offer to give them a discount if they chose the Guildhall as their wedding venue.

Today the fan posted a message of thanks to Black Stone Cherry saying: ’What an amazing night thank you guys for an awesome show and for letting me take up these awesome fans time asking my girlfriend the biggest question ever!!!! And thank you everyone for the support i was just a little bit nervous (biggest understatement ever)’

Black Stone Cherry, who hail from Kentucky, are on a UK tour.

A spokeswoman for the band said: ‘We were so honoured to be a part of such a special moment for our new friends.

‘He had reached out to us asking if he couldn’t possibly propose to his girlfriend backstage at the show and we thought we would do him one better and bring them both out on stage during the performance.

‘It was such a cool thing to witness and we wish them a lifetime of happiness.’
