WATCH: Should having tattoos stop you getting a job?

Have your say

After conciliation service Acas warned that companies with negative attitudes to tattoos were missing out on top employees, The News went around 1000 Lakeside to ask employees whether they thought tattoos had any impact on a workplace environment.

Andrew Whiteside said: ‘I don’t have a problem with tattoos; I work in an artistic profession and it’s never caused a problem.’

Coral Jones said: ‘Tattoos don’t affect a person’s job - it’s only ink on your skin.’

Acas said a third of young people have a tattoo, but some firms, and individual managers, were worried about the image it would give to potential customers or clients.

Acas pointed out that dress codes in the workplace must not be discriminatory, suggesting that employees should be consulted.
